The short version

STX is the coin of Stacks, a smart-contract layer anchored to Bitcoin that began as Blockstack in 2013 and relaunched as Stacks 2.0 in Jan 2021. Miners send BTC that is paid to holders who lock STX (stacking), while STX fees go to miners. In July 2025 stackers approved SIP-031, minting 400 million new STX over five years for a Stacks Endowment; the chain stalled for almost 8 hours on 23 May 2025. On 31 Oct 2026 one STX cost C$0.4016. From 31 Jul 2026 to 31 Oct 2026 its price changed +103.8% in Canadian dollars, and it was 92.3% below its all-time high of C$5.24 set on 1 Apr 2024.[1]
