The short version

QTUM is the staking and fee coin of Qtum, a proof-of-stake chain founded by Patrick Dai that combines Bitcoin's UTXO model with the Ethereum Virtual Machine; the Qtum Foundation drives development. The block reward halved from 0.5 to 0.25 QTUM in late 2025 and about 106.1 million coins exist. The v29.1 hard fork in Jan 2026 merged Bitcoin Core 29.1 and Ethereum's Pectra upgrade. On 31 Oct 2026 one QTUM cost C$1.10. From 31 Jul 2026 to 31 Oct 2026 its price changed +21.8% in Canadian dollars, and it was 99.1% below its all-time high of C$124.41 set on 5 Jan 2018.[1]

Checks: the same 9 questions for every coin

Facts, not a rating
Can an admin key create new coins?NoNew QTUM come only from block rewards under protocol rules (0.25 a block)[2]
Can anyone freeze or take coins from holders?NoNo freeze function or seizure of holders' coins found[3]
Can the token's contract code be changed? Not applicableRuns on its own blockchain; its rules change only through network upgrades
Is the supply capped?YesCode stops block rewards after 7 halvings, capping supply near 107.8M QTUM; no admin can mint[4, 2]
Any scheduled unlocks in the next 12 months?NoNo vesting or locked allocations published; issuance is staking rewards[1]
Does a team or foundation hold over 10% of supply? Not disclosedFoundation and founder holdings are not published[5]
Do network fees reach coin holders?YesBlock producers (stakers) receive transaction fees and gas with the block reward[6]
Main network hacked or halted in the past 2 years?NoNo exploit or halt found since Nov 2024; DefiLlama lists none[7]
Is a regulator or court case targeting the coin itself?NoNo regulator or court case naming Qtum found[8]
