The short version

ZEN began in May 2017 as ZenCash, a privacy coin. On 23 Jul 2025 it migrated to an ERC-20 token on Base with its 21 million cap intact, and the old mainchain and EON sidechain were retired. Horizen Labs (backed by Digital Currency Group), the Horizen Foundation and a DAO run the project; on 23 Oct 2026 they announced the shutdown of the Horizen L3 chain by 5 Nov 2026, moving activity to Base. On 31 Oct 2026 one ZEN cost C$7.55. From 31 Jul 2026 to 31 Oct 2026 its price changed +37.5% in Canadian dollars, and it was 96.3% below its all-time high of C$201.35 set on 7 May 2021.[1]
