Checks: the same 9 questions for every coin

Facts, not a rating
Can an admin key create new coins?NoNew TAO come only from the emission schedule written in the chain's code[2]
Can anyone freeze or take coins from holders?NoNo freeze or blacklist function found; rules change through network upgrades[2, 3]
Can the token's contract code be changed? Not applicableRuns on its own blockchain; its rules change only through network upgrades
Is the supply capped?Yes21 million maximum enforced by the chain; halvings at 10.5M and 15.75M issued[2, 4]
Any scheduled unlocks in the next 12 months?NoNo vesting or locked allocations[3]
Does a team or foundation hold over 10% of supply?NoNo premine or team allocation; all TAO is earned by miners, validators and subnet owners[3]
Do network fees reach coin holders?NoStakers earn new emissions; fees are recycled into unissued supply rather than paid out or burned[2]
Main network hacked or halted in the past 2 years?NoNo exploit or halt found since Nov 2024; a Jul 2024 wallet drain (US$8M) is older[5]
Is a regulator or court case targeting the coin itself?NoNo regulator or court case naming TAO or its developers found[6]

Who controls it

Founders
Jacob Steeves and Ala Shaabana; a fair launch with no premine or investor allocation[7, 3]
Issuance rules
Set in the chain's code: 1 TAO per 12-second block, halving each time half the remaining supply is issued[2, 4]
Emission split
Per subnet: 18% to the subnet owner, 41% to miners, 41% to validators and their stakers[2]

Supply

In circulation
11.68M TAO of a 21.00M maximum (55.6%)[1]

Recycling
Transaction fees and registration costs are subtracted from issued supply and can be re-emitted later[2]
