The short version

Litecoin is a 2011 offshoot of Bitcoin with faster blocks and an 84 million cap, used for payments. The Singapore-based Litecoin Foundation, led by creator Charlie Lee, supports development, and miners secure the network. In 2026 attackers exploited its optional MWEB privacy feature twice; a 13-block reorganization on 25 Apr reversed the invalid coins. On 31 Oct 2026 one LTC cost C$77.30. From 31 Jul 2026 to 31 Oct 2026 its price changed +24.4% in Canadian dollars, and it was 84.5% below its all-time high of C$497.55 set on 9 May 2021.[1]

Red flags and things to watch

2 red flags found
  • Red flag: In Mar 2026 an MWEB bug let an attacker create an inflated peg-out of 85,034 LTC; a 13-block reorganization on 25 Apr 2026 reversed invalid peg-outs.[5, 6, 3]
  • Red flag: After the Mar 2026 MWEB exploit, emergency Litecoin Core releases enforced by miners froze three attacker-held outputs, so specific coins can be frozen.[3]
  • Grayscale filed on 11 Sep 2026 to convert its Litecoin Trust (LTCN) into a spot ETF.[10]
  • Most Dogecoin mining pools also merge-mine Litecoin, which ties its security to Dogecoin mining.[10]
  • Release v0.21.5.6 in Aug 2026 hardened checks on MWEB data after the two incidents earlier in the year.[10]

Checked: admin keys, contract upgrades, unlocks, insider supply, hacks, legal actions and claims against records.
