The short version

Polkadot is a network that links many specialised chains to one shared security layer; DOT is used for staking, governance and buying blockspace. Gavin Wood founded it, the Swiss Web3 Foundation and Parity Technologies build it, and holders decide spending by on-chain vote. A referendum enacted in March 2026 capped supply at 2.1 billion DOT. On 31 Oct 2026 one DOT cost C$1.34. From 31 Jul 2026 to 31 Oct 2026 its price changed +25.8% in Canadian dollars, and it was 98.0% below its all-time high of C$68.36 set on 4 Nov 2021.[1]
