A proof-of-stake blockchain with an Ethereum-style main chain and custom chains; all AVAX fees are burned.
The short version
Avalanche is a proof-of-stake blockchain with an Ethereum-compatible main chain and custom chains built for institutions, games and tokenized assets. Ava Labs of New York, led by Emin Gün Sirer, develops it, and every network fee paid in AVAX is burned. Three US spot AVAX ETFs have traded since Jan 2026, and two listed companies held about 6% of supply in March. On 31 Oct 2026 one AVAX cost C$11.88. From 31 Jul 2026 to 31 Oct 2026 its price changed +32.6% in Canadian dollars, and it was 93.5% below its all-time high of C$183.26 set on 21 Nov 2021.[1]
