A proof-of-stake smart-contract blockchain with on-chain voting and a shared treasury.
The short version
Cardano is a proof-of-stake blockchain for smart contracts with on-chain governance and a community treasury, founded by Charles Hoskinson. Three bodies develop it: Input Output (US), the Cardano Foundation (Switzerland) and Emurgo (Japan). On 21 Nov 2025 a malformed transaction split the chain for several hours, and on 7 Aug 2026 Grayscale withdrew its planned US Cardano ETF. On 31 Oct 2026 one ADA cost C$0.2694. From 31 Jul 2026 to 31 Oct 2026 its price changed +14.1% in Canadian dollars, and it was 93.1% below its all-time high of C$3.90 set on 1 Sep 2021.[1]
